Home Plumbing and Blocked Drains

by superadmin on September 6, 2016 in Uncategorized

Blocked drains occur in every household. Almost every homeowner gets to the point where they start seeing the water in their sink pooling and taking longer to drain. At that point you probably realise that you’re dealing with blocked drains, and the fallout can be serious. When the gunk inside the pipe becomes unbearable, the water will stop draining and then you’ve got yourself an even bigger problem. On a few occasions these problems can be easily fixed yourself by applying a couple of well-known home plumbing remedies. Some of these are:

1) Bent Wire Hanger: Wire hangers are very useful in the art of DIY plumbing. For a clogged drain sometimes all it takes is to undo the wire hanger and slip it down the drainpipe. Pushing past the drain cover and fishing around can give you what you’re looking for. Things like hairballs and all sorts of other nasty gunk can get stuck in the pipe making the pipes impenetrable to water. Getting out all that stuff is nasty, but it is very useful and after that, the water should flow regularly. This only works if the pipe is clogged with the kind of debris that a wire hangar can hold on to and pull out.

2) Get a Plumber: Although the bent wire hanger is a good way to get out debris that’s a relatively short way inside the drainpipe, for the deeper clogs, you may need to consult a plumber. Clogs that take place deep within the bowels of a sink are beyond the reach of a regular DIY repair person. Internal clogging may require trained professional personnel to free up the pipes to flow once again.
